Jubilant Mumbai Indians upset Delhi Daredevils

May 5, 2008

The Mumbai Indians finally did it on Sunday evening and achieved their second win of the DLF Indian Premier League as they thrashed the Delhi Daredevils by 29 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. So far, this is the biggest upset of the tournament. The lowest placed team in the IPL table dethroned the Daredevils from the top spot.

Defending a total of 162 runs on a flat wicket of DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai Indians knew they had to come off good with the ball and their bowlers did not disappoint them. Delhi Daredevils, for the first time in the tournament, were all out while chasing.

Stand-in captain Shaun Pollock led from the front and lived up to his reputation of a terrific all-rounder. His captaincy deserves special accolades too, as he put in all his international experience to the hilt and shepherded his side to win. He, undoubtedly, was the Man of the Match.

Knight Riders tame Deccan Chargers

Kolkata Knight Riders carried their winning momentum from Bangalore to their home ground as they beat Deccan Chargers by 5 wickets to record their second win of the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Deccan Chargers, defending a total of 110, started off well with the ball as they had Knight Riders 21/3 at one stage. But David Hussey had other plans as he played anchor’s knock and guided his team to victory. He understood the nature of the pitch well and didn’t let his aggressive instinct take charge. However, he did hit three long sixes in the death overs to take his team closer to the target.

I catch up on news related to India only on NDTV 24×7 since it is the only channel that provides comprehensive and accurate news. People in the US can access this channel only through DirecTV.

Jaipur IPL team fined for under-bidding

February 21, 2008

As promised, here is an update on the current IPL bidding stage.

The Jaipur Franchise of the DLF Indian Premier League bought just eight players spending Rs 11.7 crores that is short of the Rs 13.2 crore that was the minimum that any team had to spend.

Jaipur will now be penalised and will now have to deposit the difference between the amount and the minimum they had to pay at that auction.

Thanks to NDTV 24×7 or else I wouldn’t know about IPL at all. Its a fantastic Indian news channel.

I prefer watching NDTV 24×7 as it provides up–to–the–minute, 24/7 news with unparalleled coverage of the latest in Indian and international news. NDTV 24×7 is available in the US only through DirecTv. Here is the URL for DirecTv:

Cricketers Auctioned; Dhoni, Symonds rake in millions

February 20, 2008

It’s happening cricketers are being auctioned. All the action is taking place under the purview of Indian Premiere League (IPL) and I am updated on this news by NDTV 24×7, India’s best news channel.

The first two rounds of auction are over. Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka drew the next biggest bid, of USD 975,000 from Mumbai.

Top Australian players Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist also drew some big bids. Warne was sold to Jaipur for USD 450,000 which was his base price.

Gilchrist will now be the face of the Hyderabad team, who bought him for USD 700,000.

The eight team franchise owners of the IPL will bid through the day for 77 international cricketers who are up for grabs.

A few of the early arrivals for the bidding, who arrived at the Hilton towers included Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Vijay Mallya, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia. It’s a first of its kind, as the cricketers are auctioned off.

I will update this space as soon as NDTV 24×7 updates me further. The fantastic news channel is available in the US only through DirecTv.

February 18, 2008

Ganguly is one of my favorite cricket players. The Indian team could have avoided the defeats if Ganguly was in the current squad.

Whenever I talk to my friends from India I always have an upper hand despite the fact that I stay in the US. I owe this to NDTV 24×7 as the news channel keeps me updated about all the happenings in India.
